The plans

Access lets your team invite reviewers, journalists and creators to a live video briefing on your book, with the author or with the editor or publicist who speaks for it. Press always join free; your team pays. See all the details on Access pricing.

  • Single press event: $249 once, for one press event. Use it any time within 12 months.
  • Publisher: $449 a month for 4 press events a month, or $4,490 a year for 48 press events to use across the year.
  • Publisher Pro: $949 a month for 10 a month, or $9,490 a year for 120.

You can build before you pay, but nothing goes live until you choose a plan. Any team can make a press event and save it as a draft, add an EPUB or PDF galley in Books → Galleys, and preview both as press will see them. A plan is what lets you publish, open the galley to requests, approve press and invite your media list; until then those buttons stay grayed out with Choose a plan beside them. Audiobook galleys and ONIX files also wait for a plan. To start, click Start building first on Access pricing, under the plans. New to Inland? You set up your team first, then land on Create event with Press chosen.

Every plan includes galleys and unlimited team members. Founding publishers pay $299 a month or $2,990 a year for Publisher, for as long as they stay subscribed. It’s for the first publishers who join, for a limited time.

Choosing a plan

Only a team admin can choose a plan. On Access pricing, click the plan’s button. New to Inland? Add your name, work email and your publisher or imprint’s name, click Continue to payment, and enter the 6-digit code we email you. That confirms your email, creates your account and sets up your team, then takes you to payment. Already on Inland? Enter the code (or sign in first) and choose Which team is this for? Then pick monthly or annual and how you’ll pay:

  • Card or US bank account, on Stripe’s secure page. A single event can also be paid by bank transfer there.
  • Pay by invoice, for annual plans. We email an invoice, due in 30 days, that your accounts team can pay by bank transfer, ACH or card. Add your PO number and it’s printed on every invoice. If your team is new to Inland, the plan starts when the first invoice is paid.

As soon as you’ve paid, Access is on for your team, and the welcome page shows where to start. We also email you once, “Welcome to Inland Access”, with the same link. Stripe emails your receipts and invoices.

Your first press event

After you pay, a Your first press event checklist shows on the welcome page and on Upcoming events: add a host, create the press event, upload the galley, import your media list, invite them, rehearse in your Team demo room, go live, and follow up. It shows how many steps are done, with the ones left first, each with a link to where it’s done; finished steps fold into one line at the end. Steps Inland can see tick themselves (including inviting your media list); tick the others, rehearsing and following up, with Mark done. It goes away once everything’s done, or when you close it.

Add a host. Every event needs at least one host: whoever leads it. A new Access team starts with none, so the Hosts field in the event form shows two buttons. Add the author opens the same form as Add a host on Hosts: search for them on Inland first, so they keep one profile, or add their name and photo. You can invite them to claim their profile later with Invite to claim on Hosts. I’ll host it myself is for an editor- or publicist-led briefing: it makes you a host from your name and photo, and asks for your name first if we don’t have it. If you already have a host profile on another team, we add that one instead of making a second, after you confirm with a code we email you. Either way the new host is picked in the form, and the step ticks itself.

Until your team makes a free or paid event, the press checklist is all your dashboard shows: there’s no Getting started card and no Set up payouts for paid events banner, because press events don’t need Stripe. Create a free or paid event (even a draft) and both come back.

Your team can hold public events for fans too, free or paid, and they never count against your plan. The welcome page says so, and so does one line under your press events on Upcoming events, with Create a public event, until your team makes its first one.

What counts as a press event

A Press event counts when you publish it, whether it’s Press, by request or Approved press (including ones limited to certain kinds of press). Press events of any kind count the same. It counts once: changing its settings later never counts it again.

Up to 2 sessions within 14 days count as one press event, so you can add a second time for another time zone. Sessions are counted earliest first in pairs: a session and the next one, if it starts no more than 14 days after it, are one press event. An event with 3 sessions counts as 2, and 2 sessions 3 weeks apart count as 2. The event form and Publish say when an event counts as more than one. Adding or moving sessions on a published press event counts any it adds then: the form says Saving adds 1 press event to your plan, and if your plan has none left you can’t save the change until it does. Removing a session later doesn’t give one back.

  • Drafts never count, and nor do rehearsals in your Team demo room.
  • Delete an event before anyone has registered and you get it back.
  • Monthly plans count each billing month: from the day of the month your plan started to the same day the next month (a plan bought on the 20th renews on the 20th). Annual plans count the billing year as one pool. Changing plan in Manage plan keeps what you’ve used this billing month. When you choose Press, the event form, Publish and Billing show how many you’ve used.
  • When your plan is full, a press event you’ve already bought is used next. Otherwise see Extra press events.
  • Free and paid events never count, and press events aren’t charged for live video the way free events are.

Public events for the same book

Your team can also hold free and paid events for fans, open to everyone, live or pre-recorded. They never count against your plan and are on Inland’s usual terms.

To start one from a press event, open the press event’s Manage menu and choose Public event for this book, or click Create a public event at the end of its Event report. Create event opens with the same book, hosts and hero image, set to Everyone and free. Add the dates, the text and a price if you want one. On a public event, Press event for this book does the same the other way round.

Extra press events

When your plan is full, a team admin can click Add an extra press event in Publish: $149 on Publisher, $99 on Publisher Pro.

Changing or canceling your plan

Team admins manage the plan from Billing:

  • Payment method shows the card or US bank account we charge, and when a card expires. Click Change to replace it on Stripe’s page. Billing says so when the card has expired or expires within 30 days.
  • Invoices lists your plan payments, single and extra press events and any other invoices from Inland, newest first, 10 a page, with each one’s status: Paid, Open, Past due, Void or Refunded. Click Download for the PDF, View for Stripe’s copy or receipt, or Pay to pay an open invoice.
  • Manage plan opens Stripe, where you can switch between Publisher and Publisher Pro or monthly and annual, or cancel. Canceling takes effect at the end of the month or year you’ve paid for, and isn’t refunded for the time left.

When a plan ends, you can’t publish new press events, but nothing you made goes away: published press events still run, and your approved press, galleys and replays stay. Your events keep skipping our review for 30 days after the plan ends; after that you click Submit for review before publishing, as other teams do (see Publishing and review). Choose a plan again whenever you like, and they skip review again as soon as it’s paid.

Deleting your team (on Team page) cancels its Access plan at once, with no refund for the time left; Team page says so before you confirm. Your invoices and receipts stay with Stripe. If that’s not what you meant, message us in the chat.

If a payment fails, everything keeps working while Stripe tries again: 14 days for a card or bank account, 30 days for an invoice. After that, new press events pause until it’s paid; published ones keep running.

When a card or bank payment for your plan doesn’t go through, your team’s admins get an email, Your Inland payment didn’t go through, once for that invoice. It says how much, when Stripe will try again and the day new press events pause, with an Update payment method button that opens Billing. Every dashboard page shows the same notice at the top until it’s paid. Until then, Access card in Billing says Payment due instead of the day your plan renews. When the payment goes through, admins get Payment received, you’re all set. These emails always arrive, whatever you’ve turned off in Email notifications.

Your team’s admins are also told in the bell at the top of the page, with a link to Billing, when a payment doesn’t go through, when the plan is canceled and when it ends, when an extra press event is charged, a week before an annual plan renews, and when the card on file expires within 30 days or has expired. Each is told once.
